Fires at black churches raise concern

Recent fire outbreak at black churches raises serious concerns

Fires at several predominantly black churches in Southern states the past two weeks — at least three of them attributed to arson — raise concerns about potential fallout from the recent South Carolina church shooting.



The fires have all taken place in the weeks since the attack June 17. A 21-year-old man with apparent white supremacist beliefs is accused of going on a shooting rampage inside the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., killing nine people.

De Blasio accuses Cuomo of political 'revenge'



Mayor de Blasio lit Gov. Cuomo up Tuesday with a double-barreled blast of political payback.
In stunningly frank language, the mayor accused the governor of deliberately thwarting his Albany agenda out of political pique and revenge — and hurting New Yorkers in the process.

Hours before leaving on a vacation out West, de Blasio called reporters into his office and spoke calmly in a calculated decision to take off the gloves and reveal the “frenemies” were really enemies.

Star of Bethlehem? How to see Tuesday's bright celestial event

Something happened on our planet on Tuesday.


A glorious conjunction between the two brightest planets in our night sky occurs Tuesday evening, June 30.
Tonight at dusk, head outside and look west. Just above the horizon, you’ll see a bright object in the night sky as Jupiter and Venus come within 1/3 of a degree of each other. The two planets are the brightest dots in the sky.
